தமிழ் பிறப்பு ரஹஷ்யம் - 5 The Correspondence Between the Basic Elements and the Vowels of the Alphabet

The first two vowels  (‘a’, and ‘aa’) are the akasa (space) element ; the next two (‘i’, and ‘ii’)  the air element ; the following two ( ‘u’, and ‘uu’,) the fire element ; the next five (‘e’, ‘ee’, ‘ai’ ,‘o’,  and ‘oo’,) the water element ; and the last one (‘au’) the earth element.

‘ak’ represents three netra – Koumar/Siva,
Connecting the third eye (Adi) to Muladhar (Andham).

Even as the elements from space to earth are increasingly material, so the vowels from ‘a’ to 'au’ are increasingly expressive.

The vowel ‘a’ is all the divinities in an undifferentiated state.  The second vowel ‘aa’ is the great power (parasakti) to project and generate ; ‘i’ is Vishnu, the principle of universal pervasion ; ‘ii’ is mäyä, the principle of creation ; ‘u’ is vastu or material foundation ; ‘uu’ is earth-ground ; ‘e’ is Virabhadra or the principle of overcoming obstacles ; ‘ai’ is Sarasvati or the principle of expression by speech ; ‘o’ is Isvara or the lord of phenomena ; ‘au’ is the primordial power to accomplish all objectives, Adi-sakti ; and the masculine consort of this power, Bhairava ; and ‘ak’ is the deity conjointly produced by power and pleasure (Kalarudra).

There is another way of classifying the letters of the alphabet. The vowels (12) are described as “active” (rajasa), the two groups of consonants (Vallinam and Mellinam)(12) as “sluggish or dark” tamasa), and the consonants ‘ya’, ‘ra’ , ‘la’, ‘va’, ‘lha’ and ‘zha’ are ‘neuter’ (Idayinam)(6), as “good and bright” (sáttvika).
